Gerald Jay Markoe
Paramhansa Yogananda (author of the highly revered book "Autobiography of a Yogi") was largely responsible for introducing the West to the ideas of meditation, Kriya Yoga and spiritual enlightenment. Upon entering the United States in 1920, he traveled far and wide spreading his teachings about Eastern religion and drawing parallels to the beliefs of the West. This album features a series of compositions created by Yogananda, performed with ethereal grace by Gerald Jay Markoe. Incorporating instruments like harp, sitar, keyboards, cello, strings and synthesized ambience, Celestial Music for Yoga is a feast for the ears and a wonderful accompaniment for yoga practice.

Riley Lee
For the Japanese monks who play the Shakahuchi, a simple flute with five finger holes, the aim is to turn inward from the clutter and commotion outside - much like the aim of Hatha Yoga. While yoga purists might think of music as a distraction from their practice, in the hands of Riley Lee, the first non-Japanese to attain the rank of dai shihan or Grand Master. the Shakahuchi's rich range of sounds creates an atmosphere of stillness that perfectly complements the gentle path of yoga practice.
