Yulara
Yulara means 'the howling of the dingos' and is the name of an Australian village close to Ayers Rock. In the studio and on record Yulara is led by producer and keyboardist Robert Matt with flute player and saxophonist Annie Hilsberg. They weave electronic soundscapes with slow funk rhythms, interact with sampled sounds from nature, spiritual references from world cultures, and improvise on the advanced harmonic structure of American jazz to create an enchanting musical journey. "all is one" is a travelogue for the ears and soul. Beginning in Japan with the ageless chanting of Zen monks on 'Uno Domini,' creating a trance-like state that leads into 'Out Of The Deep,' offering conversation with the humpback whale, the howling of dingoes in the Australian desert. Saxophones, flutes, guitars and keyboards combine with didgeridoo, chanting, environmental sounds and Urban Jazz rhythms to create a place where "all is one."

Abida Parveen
Great music should have melody, poetry and rhythm and Abida's singing has these elements in abundance. Sufi music concentrates more on the central sentiment than the poetic expression of a single poet. As a result, the singer enjoys freedom to choose verses from any poet which fits into the pattern of the dominant sentiment which the singer wishes to express. The New York Times writes: "She melds virtuosity and devotion... bringing profundity to the music along with flamboyance."

Babaji Bob Kindler & Jai Ma Music
This almost-ambient and nearly-echoing production of the original compositions by Babaji is awash with flowing Eastern rhythms and Western dramatic flair. How this four piece band produced such a lush, full symphonic sound out of one autoharp, a cello, a flute, a tabla and a table tarong is the sound engineers secret. The unusual mix of instruments creates a surprisingly satisfying sound. Resonating cello, or sometimes flute, deeply penetrates the belly while the listener floats on a stream of mellow autoharp punctuated by soulful comments of the tabla.

Vidroha Jamie
Indo Reel is a stunning follow up to Jamie's third album, Celtic Ragas, which garnered this praise from Paul McCartney, "I love the blend of Indian and Celtic styles in this music. It is one of my favorite CDs." Guitars, tablas, violin, piano, bamboo flutes, trumpet, sitar, bass, and drums give voice to Jamies richly layered compositions. Innocent, joyful, sometimes haunting, Indo Reel alternates intimate dialogues between bamboo flutes and sitar, ("From an Unknown Heart") and a guitar / trumpet duet ("The River") with a full band of guitar, bass, drums, sitar, flutes, and tables, as in "Night Falls." Jamies family roots are in Ireland, and in the 90s he was steeped in the meditation and celebration of India, where he lived for twelve years imbibing the meditative approach to music there. In that environment his musical expression shifted from rock and blues to the mystical relationship between music, silence, and meditation. Indo Reel features a group of world class musicians including Kit Walker (jazz piano, nominated for a Grammy for his work with Jai Uttal on the album "Mondo Rama"), Prem Joshua (sitar, bamboo flutes, thirteen world music CDs), Toni Marcus (violin, received "Most Valuable Player of the Year Award" for her work with Van Morrison in the late 70's including the CD "Into the Music"), and Manish Vyas (tablas).

James Asher
Following the success of his Aboriginal-African dance album, 'Feet in the Soil', James Asher was inspired by the sparkle and vibrancy of Rajasthan to create an album celebrating its power and mysterious appeal. In the year spent building this idea, James was able to track down twenty of the finest musicians Indian and Western, who would help craft the uniquely magical impression made by India. The resulting album was 'Tigers of the Raj', but James was keen to see how others could expand this vision through re-interpretation. He invited pioneers in the field of dance music to contribute their own remixes. The seventy minutes of this CD are a testament to the width and breadth of a growing and innovative musical area, fuelled by a rich cultural heritage, and bubbling with creative innovation. A romantic view of Rajasthan's splendour takes on new dimensions when explored with the imagination and expertise of these masters in world fusion. Ruben Romero & Robert Tree Cody
"The last time nuevo flamenco guitarist Ruben Romero and Native American flutist and vocalist Robert Tree Cody collaborated, they produced the Native American Music Award Best Latin Album and Best World Album for 1999. Now, these award-winning musicians have done it again. Working together with a brotherhood of talented artists, Romero and Cody have created Native Brotherhood, a fascinating glimpse into the excitement that cultural fusion can generate. This album blends the music of two cultures: Native American instruments with sultry Latin rhythms. With Romero's easy and graceful playing, the complexities of the flamenco line never sound fussy or strained. Cody's masterful and evocative flute plays like a warm breeze over mountains. Complemented by the considerable musicianship of Carolyn Muller, Dan Namingha, and Ronald Roybal, each track unfolds as a dialogue between the voices. The rapport between the artists is evident as their disparate styles merge together. The opening track "Three Rivers" is a liquid junction of flamenco, Native American, and contemporary music flowing seamlessly into one another. Cody's wonderful singing introduces the plaintive "Gentle Wind"; Romero's love of Spain is evident in the rich imagery of "Postcard from Seville." The lyrical interplay of guitar, flute, and voice draws upon Old World Spanish influences and Native American resonances and results in a daring and successful collaboration." - New Age Voice.

"It's been two years since I reviewed James Asher's excellent Feet in the Soil. Asher mixes ancient and modern instruments to create a lavish and intoxicating homage to the palaces of Rajasthan. As with Feet in the Soil, Tigers of the Raj bursts with highly charged world-beat dance music. But where the former emphasized the rhythms and instruments of Africa, Tigers features a strong focus on instruments from India and the Middle East. More than 20 musicians contribute to Tigers. While Asher leads the way with keyboards and percussion, also contributing to the melodies are guitar, flute, tambura, and vocals. Percussion includes table, djembe, frame drum, and ankle bells. Asher's compositions (he shares credit on two tracks with Craig Pruess) are filled with wildly exotic rhythms that almost drag the listener onto the dance floor." - NAPRA Journal.
