L Subramaniam
L Subramaniam is among the few of the worlds greatest musicians who have earned an international reputation of complete, unquestioned integrity. He has received several prestigious national awards in India and scored music for many movies, including Salaam Bombay, and Bertoluccis Little Buddha. L Subramaniam is the undisputed master of the Indian violin today (he gave his first performance at the age of six), and his brilliant, individualistic style has earned him the status of legend in his own lifetime. Here he combines his violin with Indian percussion and Western instruments (clarinet, bassoon, french horn, piano and strings), to create a complex and contemplative musical mix that transcends the limitations of both Eastern and Western musical traditions. Although technically brilliant, this music has a strong spiritual and philosophical base. The ultimate aim of this composition is to probe the mysteries of life itself, and the realms "beyond" - hence the title. "In the east music has always been accepted as a spiritual phenomenon. If your music cannot create silence in people who are listening - it is not music. If your music does not become an unmoving no-mind in the people of your audience it is not music - it is just making noise. Beyond music just one more step is the world of meditation, silence. Silence is the ultimate music. - Osho.

Chinmaya Dunster & Vidroha Jamie
"It was at an all-night concert in Delhi in 1979 that I first heard - and fell instantly in love with - the sarod. At the same time the parallels between the Celtic folk music I grew up with and the classical music of India suddenly hit me like a revelation. In that moment in a park in Delhi the connection was made and Celtic Ragas conceived." Chinmaya Dunster then spent ten years devoting himself to mastering the sarod. In 1989 he met American folk-rock guitarist Vidroha Jamie in Pune and the fusion Chinamaya had conceived ten years earlier was born. This album is the resulting blend of Jamies chords on guitar and Chinmayas sarod melodies, which have developed over the years as they have played together in concerts and for special meditations and healing groups all over the world. "It feels like a musical love affair for us to play this music together, an intimate conversation between two old friends. The ancient Hindus and Celts may have felt the same way if ever they connected on their wanderings out of central Asia - one headed east, the other to the farthest west." - Chinmaya Dunster
Amelia Cuni
Italian born Amelia Cuni has studied classical music, dance and song in North India for over a decade, but she is best known for her dhrupad singing performances which have attracted widespread acclaim in the Indian national press. Dhrupad music flourished in Hindu courts and temples from the 14th century onwards. Rooted in the ritualistic chanting of the Vedas, it has been orally transmitted through generations of musical families. For anyone with a penchant for Indian religious and devotional singing, this album is a real treat, and a meditative and evocative experience. Mysterious and melodious, yet with passionate and earthly qualities, Cunis exquisite voice is interwoven with a variety of percussion and accompanying instruments, from Indian and early European musical cultures. "Her performance is so amazing that I would like to believe that Signora Cuni is a reincarnated pandita from a bygone age." - The Times of India
